So, you’ve decided to drink more water (and your skin and body will love you for it), but the thought of drinking regular old plain water makes you talk yourself into thinking orange juice is (say it with me), ‘just as good as water’. But we both know the sugar content from juice will only accelerate the rate of fine lines and wrinkles through glycation. Well lucky for you, here are five ways you can make hydrating yourself a little more palatable. Check out this blog if you need to reaffirm your faith in your decision to start drinking water.
1. Fruity water
Fruit is being added to just about anything these days: cereals, salads, barbecues - you name it, and you’ll probably find a fruit in it, and water is no exception. Adding fruit to your water bottle is an incredibly easy way to sweeten your water healthily, without any of the nasty consequences sugary drinks have to offer.
Fruits are also loaded with polyphenol antioxidants that can help prolong skin youthfulness, smooth fine lines and tighten skin! For examples, raspberries are loaded with the polyphenol ellagic acid which protects your collagen from being destroyed.
Not to mention, it adds a beautiful burst of colour to your plain jane water bottle (we’re all about aesthetics here at Raw Beauty Lab). Add in a handful of raspberries, strawberries or blueberries to your water and within minutes you’ll get a subtle berry filled taste in your water!
2. Lemon zinger
If sweet water isn’t your thing, then decorate your bottle with a couple slices of lemon or lime. Lemon water itself can sometimes be difficult to stomach, so try adding to a lime to make it a little more refreshing. Not only does this pimp up your water, it’s also a great way to get in a little more vitamin C in your diet – one of the most potent anti-aging antioxidants you can feed your body! For an extra kick, add the slices of lemon and lime to your water bottle the night before and let them sit in your fridge to get a power packed citrus water the next morning.
3. Pop in a teabag
If cutting up vegetables feels like too much work, this option is for you! They may be a great way to get in your morning cuppa, but tea bags work just as well with cold water. Ideally, we’d recommend you choose a caffeine-free flavour to spare your nervous system any unnecessary jitters. Our favourites include chamomile, peppermint, liquorice and lavender. Feel free to experiment with tea bag combos and be sure to show them off by tagging us on your socials!
4. All about the bubbles
If you’re really missing the 7UP and lemonade in your sugar detox, make your own healthy version with carbonated water! It’s as easy as mixing slices of lemon and lime with carbonated water et voila – lemonade! Although commonly misconstrued as a bad for you drink, carbonated water isn’t actually that bad. We obviously don’t suggest your entire 2.2L water quota should be drunk as carbonated water, and steer clear of this option if you bloat regularly or have issues with your digestion or gut. But compared to the plethora of harmful chemicals (yeah, you read that correctly!), sugars, sweeteners and preservatives regular fizzy drinks are filled with, carbonated water is Godsend!
5. Herbs and Spices
Another way to transform your water is by the addition of a few herbs and spices. Spices have earned their place in our pantry by flavouring our food to make the most magnificent of dishes, but they work really well in your water bottle too! Try adding a handful of herbs with fruit to discover a whole new dimension of flavour! Here are some combinations to get you started: apple and mint, blackberry and mint or strawberry and basil.
6. Collagen boosting Water
The last on our list of pimping out your water is one of the easiest and most beneficial ways to not only hydrate your skin, but help it fight the test of time - add in a scoop of Raw Beauty Lab’s Vegan Collagen Powder! Not only will this give you a beautiful pink, subtly sweet, berry flavoured drink (sugar and sweetener free of course), it will nourish your skin and body with a rich variety of collagen building phytonutrients that will help hydrate and nourish your skin with collagen building vitamins and minerals and protect collagen degradation from free radicals! You can increase your water intake and prevent aging - who wouldn’t want that?
We hope this article helped you curb your water drinking woes! These methods are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to making water more interesting. The world is really your oyster when it comes to pimping up your water so feel free to experiment with different flavours! Found your new favourite combination? Let us know!
